GRAND TOURING (GT) RACE CARS
GT class race cars are production based racecars that are similar in
appearance to the latest high-performance sports cars and coupes that are seen
on the street every day. Underneath their skin, however, Rolex GT race cars are
highly advanced machines, using some of the same technology found in the more
exotic Daytona Prototype class. Engines
produce between 390 and 450 horsepower depending on the car, and minimum
weights range from 2,500 to 2,700 lbs, yielding lbs.-per-HP ratio of 6:1. Top
speeds for GT race cars reach 170 mph+ with cornering forces exceeding 2.0g
lateral.
Only in Rolex GT can fans see nimble, six-cylinder Porsche GT3’s take
on big-muscled V8 Corvettes, Pontiac GXP.R Coupes and Mustangs, while fending
off competition from BMW M3 coupes, Mazda RX-8’s, mid-engine Ferraris and Maseratis.
